As for many of you, this has been a crazy month for me. I was laid off from my part time job last week and that will last until whenever this pandemic curve is squished, I imagine.
They did at least let me keep my benefits/health insurance, which is helpful, I'm just not being scheduled. So essentially I'm on unpaid vacation.
Being that I rely on the income from this job to pay rent and buy groceries, however, I am a little nervous looking into the future.
In light of all of this, I just want to put it out there that I am wide open for commissions for the foreseeable future. If you are interested in getting one, here is my rate sheet for reference:

Most of what I've been up to this summer is client work, my commission slots are full at the moment and I'm scrambling to meet those deadlines. So if you're waiting on something from me, please know that I'm going as fast as I can without compromising quality, thank you for your patience. When not working on commissions, I've been filling my time with streaming over on Twitch a few days a week, and staying on top of my Patreon.

I've also been super busy doing research to try and actually launch my professional illustration career. I've sent out postcards to publishing houses (and actually heard back from one, woo!) and am in the process of compiling a list of Illustration Reps to reach out to. So if anyone out there reading this has names, advice, or any knowledge about the illustration field they'd care to share, I'm all ears! Hopefully this journey will end in a book deal from a publisher somewhere. Wish me luck!

8 Character Facts: Rhys

in this character challenge and thought it looked fun, so here I go!
Rules are as follows:

2. Write 8 facts about your character

My gryphon character, Rhys.
1. Rhys was created when I joined a gryphon Art RPG group years ago called
. He is from the Tiwstoult aerie located deep in the jungle, though he loves venturing out and discovering the world around him. He is always leaping at the chance to run errands for the elder gryphs, though many have learned not to ask him as more often than not he'll take the scenic route to accomplish the task and be gone for hours.
2. I have used Rhys for a set of Line Stickers , though he is drawn uncharacteristically expressive in them. In reality, he is very shy and a bit of a loner with no truly close friends (as of yet). However, he is known for being extraordinarily polite when he does speak; it is one of the few distinguishing characteristics that make him stand out at all in his aerie. He enjoys the company of others, but is seldom part of the conversation. He prefers to be on the fringes of the group so he can listen, observe, and learn.
3. Pronounced like "Reese", Rhys is the Welch word for enthusiasm. At first this seems odd, given Rhys' generally reserved nature--but get him talking about exploration, world history, or the little-known human population of Windsonde and he'll suddenly live up to his name. You can hardly stem the flow of words from him in those moments.
4. Since Rhys spends most of his time flying across the lands of Windsonde, he has become a very strong and adept long distance flier. Though he is not the most agile gryph around, he is able to outdistance most others in nonstop flight due to his deep well of stamina from these lifelong workouts.
5. He likes to sneak out in secret and observe the tiny human village of Dail, though it is very far from his home. As a young gryphon, he has to come up with elaborate excuses to his parents in order to be gone so long. He is fascinated by these new creatures that suddenly showed up and he has watched them thrive in remarkable ways. His curious mind wants to gather as much information as he can about them as he is unsure what to make of them. The question of whether or not they are a threat to gryphonkind is constantly on his mind.
6. Rhys has mostly been around gryphons from his own aerie, so he is somewhat afraid of the other aeries in his youth and even into early adulthood. The Skrekrill especially as they are notoriously bitter, rage-filled gryphs. He's even heard rumors that some of them are cannibals and will eat any smaller gryphons they can catch: this kept him awake at night as a gryphlet.
7. Rhys is half Crested Hawk Eagle and half Pantanal cat, a sub-species of the Pampas (or Colocolo) Cat of south america that sports unique black footed markings with large lateral leg stripes. He is about the size of a lion when full grown.
8. Rhys has a unique tail and can collapse his tail feathers when not in flight, causing it to look like a cat tail from the side (albeit a bit stiff). When in flight, they fan out and you can see that the central feathers grow out of a feline tail that supports them. Click here to see his ref for visuals.

2019 Goals, Cintiq, and Updates!

Happy 2019 everyone! I hope you all are doing well on your goals this year.
I'm not.
But I hope everyone else is, haha.
A couple of big emergencies happened between the 1st and a few days ago that I had to drop everything to handle, but that appears to mostly be calming down now.
Also, I ended up getting a Cintiq 22HD! Thanks for everyone who gave me input!
I'm probably going to try to build a keyboard tray under my desk to make that more convenient, but otherwise I really like it!
I'll be streaming with it for the first time today if you wanna come check that out! I'll shout when I'm live.
So. Goals!
I have two lists of goals this year: personal, and professional.
Some of my professional goals are:
I'm not.
But I hope everyone else is, haha.

- Do your warm up studies. Every. Day. No excuses.
- Post to social media at least 3 times a week.
- When not working for clients, remember that you are working for yourself. Be a good employee.
- Design 10 new images for prints (sticker sets only count as 1 image per 15 stickers)
- Get into one new art show this year
- Make two youtube videos that aren’t stream VODs
- Submit work to publishing houses/art directors
Freelancing is really stressful, and I think the above will help me meet my professional goals this year. What kinds of things are you guys doing to help you reach your goals? Or heck, what *are* your goals?

I've been considering getting a Cintiq, but I'm a bit torn. I was hoping that some of you out there might have some insight for me.
I've used one before, but it's been a while. It was a 24HD and I LOVED the ergonomic stand that it comes with. But you can't get those anymore except refurbished. Anyone bought a refurbed one from a good source? I'm scared it won't have a very long life. And I'm afraid of Craigslist.
I was also looking at the 22HD, but I'm worried that the stand it comes with will be awkward to use since it can lay down flat, but can't move toward you like the 24HD. So I worry I might constantly be having to move it back and forth across my desk or just be half-standing over it to draw. Also where would I put my keyboard? Behind it? So I have to move it toward me to draw, move my keyboard, then switch them back to use my computer after? Wash, rinse, repeat? Sounds annoying.
So then there's the 13HD, which is basically an Intuos 4, but with a monitor instead of just the drawing surface. Which seems good, but maybe a bit too small?
All I know is that I don't want a touch Cintiq, but that's about it.
What have you guys used? Or what do you have? What do you recommend? What do you think?
